A moderator's plea for human messiness

Playing the game of writing technical post was funny two years ago. Now, I am a mod and it is incredible the amount of posts generated by AI that I have to review. Personally, I enjoy reading posts written by humans because it is fun to discover their tone and style, it is fun to read the titles, it is fun to read their experience without having to deal with "it is not A, it is B". JUST STOP. If you do not have anything to share, do not share ANYTHING. We do not need quantity, we need quality.
I want messy posts. I want to know that behind the screen there is a human investing their time typing as in the old days. It does not matter if English is not your first language, just write, just read, just share and be wrong. By making mistakes, you learn.
Finally, I want to share my concerns about the accessibility web community because it worries me how pages like dev.to, smashing magazine, reddit etc, etc have become a sea of ai-generated "accessible" libraries or software to detect automated issues. What is going on? The situation is insufferable.

Where the humans that generate accessibility content gather today? I do not want to engage with bots anymore.

Hey @micaavigliano. I appreciate you sharing your concerns.

I want messy posts. I want to know that behind the screen there is a human investing their time typing as in the old days. It does not matter if English is not your first language, just write, just read, just share and be wrong. By making mistakes, you learn.

The thing is that people are concern that they want to be perfect. I had my friend reviewing the dev.to space with @codingwithjiro and he crashed out immediately lol. The key points he pointed out is that dev.to is a space for developers to share their work and knowledge, we are NOT writers.

If we want our writing to be perfect, reread your post and find a peer reviewer. If you don't have anyone to review it too, learn it. It's harsh yes, but we became dependent on the tools to the point it becomes a replacement.

If we become dependent, we lose our ability to think for ourselves. It's important to balance AI and doing it yourself.

Spot on! Use it too much and it's like social media toxicity all over again. Doom scrolling not posts but prompts. I fear that each day, society is moving towards like the situation with Wall-E. Too dependent.

Do we blame the government and companies for allowing this or do we blame ourselves? Honestly, I don't know anymore.

Overall, it leads to you. People can show you this or that, but that decision is based on you.

@micaavigliano you don't know how many AI-generated titles I skipped before reading yours. I knew it wasn't slop right from the get-go, and thank God people are voicing this out more.

I'm sure the community is aware of these AI posts flooding the feed. But what I don't like is that it seems like most take it as a norm. Might as well slap an idea on an AI and read from there. Honestly, it's starting to pile up and it now annoys me a bit too. (ps. I'm more concerned now for new software engineers checking out the site and then immediately getting hit by a ton of AI-slop titles)

I always feel bad that I don't post much on DEV, but I remind myself it is quality over quantity. A lot of my posts aren't perfect, but I also go back to my old posts from time to time to see if I can make them better. I spend a lot of time writing and editing before I actually click publish on posts.

My last post went through countless rewrites and edits before I got the version I published on DEV. I am my biggest critic, so it is less if it is perfect and more about whether it would make sense for a DEV audience.

Yes, me too! I have my edit post open for days before hitting submit. Send you hugs, we should remain strong and resist this AI tsunami.

Same here! Usually publishing posts a few days after writing them to give myself some space for editing 🙌🏻

What's funny is AI is so perfect and precise, and I believe that's what alot of tech docs strive to achieve. Precision. And now its so precise and uniform, passion has been muted out by the buzz of a million overpriced gpus. Drama for sure. Ill make a typo just for you br0. Haha.

Whenever I detect something has been written by AI, my brain goes off.

OMG, I couldn't have phrased it better! Same same 🙌🏻

I feel you, Mica. I've been struggling with this as well, especially at work (AI-generated Jira tickets for real take additional mental capacity to get into the task!). However, everything seems affected by low-quality generated content nowadays, and I'm also super tired of it. Seriously, it's like a zombie apocalypse 🧟‍♂️ I hope soon the AI bubble will just crash and things will get back to normal.

I really enjoyed reading it.

I’m a Python Full-Stack Engineer with over 10 years of experience designing and building scalable software solutions for clients across a variety of industries. Along the way, I’ve learned that successful projects depend not only on strong technical execution but also on creating real business value.

With my recent contract completed, I’m exploring new opportunities to collaborate with professionals who value innovation, practical problem-solving, and long-term partnerships. I enjoy discussing ideas that combine technical excellence with sound business strategy, creating outcomes that benefit everyone involved.

I believe every connection has the potential to become something meaningful. If you're interested in exchanging ideas, exploring opportunities, or simply connecting with someone who enjoys building impactful technology, I'd be happy to hear from you.

Wishing you success in your future endeavors, and I look forward to connecting.

Well, this is not a first post about how one tired of all this AI-generated articles. While I understand your point, the question is: What is actually a tech article? Is a tech article should be about burnouts and feelings, or about a new API?
I agree that burnout attracts magnitude or attention vs API which probably just a fraction will pay attention to?

The moderation angle is the part people underestimate. If AI makes publishing easier, the scarce resource becomes trust, not text. Communities need better signals for effort, originality, and accountability, otherwise the feed fills with posts that are technically readable but socially empty.

Hi everyone! 👋
Hope you're doing well. I'm a Technical Recruiter at Vynt, and we're currently hiring junior and mid-level software developers. You don't need to be an expert developer—we're open to candidates who are still growing their technical skills. What matters most is that you have good English communication skills and are eager to learn and work in a collaborative environment. If you're interested in exploring a new opportunity, feel free to send me a DM. I'd be happy to share more details about the role and answer any questions. Looking forward to connecting with you. Thanks! 😊
